The Ridgefield Joint Council of PTAs is proud to sponsor the 2019 Young Writers’ Conference for third, fourth and fifth grade students. This celebration of writing gives children an opportunity to use pencil and paper in new and exciting ways, and to broaden their perspective of what can be created with words. Workshops are taught by writing professionals in many different fields.

Fourth and fifth graders attend 2 morning sessions. They will choose their top 4 workshops and will be placed into 2 consecutive workshops, allowing them to explore different avenues of creativity. They will be notified of which workshops they are placed in one week prior to the conference.

Third graders will select their top 3 choices and will be placed in 1 workshop in the afternoon to explore their writing passion. The conference is a fun, hands-on experience, and it might open eyes as to how fun “writing” can be. This year, there are exciting new workshops as well as some returning favorites!

HOW TO ENROLL

Please read the following enrollment instructions carefully.

With your child, select four workshops from the descriptions attached, ranked in order of preference. Workshop placements will be made by lottery. Some sessions have a limited number of spaces. 5th graders receive priority placement as this will be their last year with us.

Submit your registration form and payment via the Joint Council website by Friday, February 22. Registration fee’s must be paid at the time of your registration. The cost is $25 for fourth and fifth graders, who attend two workshops, and $15 for third graders, who attend one workshop. We cannot accept incomplete forms. Scholarships are available and should be requested through your school’s PTA president. Registrations received after February 22nd will be placed only if there is still room in the workshops and on a first come, first served basis.

Before the conference, children will receive a confirmation letter from their teacher at school. This letter includes specific arrival and dismissal procedures as well as class assignments. There will also be a reminder to arrive at East Ridge Middle School 15 minutes before your child’s first session. There’s a short registration process once your child arrives and ERMS is a big place to get around! Workshops start on time to allow presenters and students to maximize these unique, interactive programs. Be sure to bring the confirmation letter with you to the conference to eliminate any on-site confusion.

We couldn't run this amazing program without the help of parent volunteers.  Please consider signing up to be a parent volunteer during your students workshop session.  Students who's parents volunteer will receive their 1st & 2nd class request.
